| Abingdon's
nine-point lead evaporates |
Going
into the final quarter down 31-26, the #2 seeded
Macomb Bombers outscored the Abingdon Commandos
22-6 in the final 8 minutes to survive a scare to
win by a score of 48-37. A steal and uncontested
layup by Tyler Van Vleet with 4:06 left gave the
Bombers their first lead since their 10-9 lead at
the end of the first quarter.
The Bombers (7-1) put two players in double
figures with Van Vleet scoring 17 and Matt Buren
adding 15. Buren just missed a double-double
pulling down a game-high nine boards. Abingdon
(3-7) was led by Blake Ryan's 16 points. The
Bombers held a hefty 33-21 rebounding edge over
the Commandos including a 14-2 advantage on the
offensive glass.
Macomb advances to play Warsaw in Game 15 of Day
2 at 8:00 p.m. The last time these two teams met
was in the 2004 tournament with Macomb running
away with a decisive 62-32 win. Abingdon meets
Lewistown in a Prairieland Conference battle on
the consolation side of the bracket in Game 11 on
Day 2 at 1:00 p.m.

-Macomb's Dustin Bainter was held to 2-13
shooting for a total of 6 points.
-Abingdon and Macomb have met at some point in
the tournament in 3 of the past 5 years.
