Macomb headed for semis after 57-40 win over Warsaw   December 29, 2005
Bomber sophomore has a big day
The #2 seeded Macomb Bombers survived a scare in the first half but evenutally pulled away from the Warsaw Wildcats to advance to the semifinals with a 57-40 victory. Macomb took a close halftime lead and increased it by outscoring the Wildcats 28-16 in the second half. The Bombers cashed in for 21 points on 16 Wildcat turnovers. The defense also held the Wildcats to 32% shooting in the second half, after shooting 55%.

Matt Buren’s game-high 23 points led the Bomber attack. The Bombers (8-1) out-rebounded the Wildcats 31-20, with Buren grabbing 9 caroms. Luke Bavery’s near double-double of 19 points and nine rebounds led the way for the Wildcats (5-5). Bavery shot nearly flawless from the field as he hit on 8 of 9 attempts.

Macomb will see the winner of Carthage/Illini Central in Game 22 at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Warsaw will meet up with the loser between Carthage/Illini Central in Game 20 at 10:30 a.m.

NOTES:
-Macomb has met up with Warsaw in three of the last five tournaments ... all resulting in Bomber victories: 2001 (56-37) and 2004 (62-32).
-Macomb went 9-11 from the free throw line, with Buren going 9-10.
