| Blueboys
come from 11 down to beat the Cougars |
A
ten point halftime advantage wasn't enough for
Illini Central as the Blueboys of Carthage made
both a comeback and a date in the semifinals
after a dramatic 68-63 overtime victory. Carthage
(7-1) lost the lead with 1:27 left in the first
quarter and wouldn't regain it until Paul Sheetz
nailed two free throws with 5:00 left in
regulation. Carthage would go up by as many as
four points, but John Tracy's layup with 18
seconds on the clock knotted things up and forced
the extra session.
Douglas Edwards led Carthage with 21 points.
Brock Edris added 17 points and 12 rebounds for
the Blueboys. Illini Central (6-4) had four
players finish in double-figure scoring led by
Tracy's 18.
The Blueboys will matchup with the Macomb Bombers
Friday at 2:30 p.m. in a semifinal matchup. That
game will mark the first meeting between those
two schools since 1989. Illini Central moves to
the 5th place bracket where they will face Warsaw
at 10:30 a.m. in Western Hall. |
