9-0 start over the first 3:49 of the second half
for Brown County was eventually overcome by the
Titans of Monmouth-Roseville who prevailed 54-46
in the opening game of the 2006 edition of the
Macomb-Western Hoiday Tournament. Ben Gillen hit three
consecutive three-pointers for Monmouth-Roseville
(10-1) to erase a four point first half deficit.
Gillen finished 3 of 7 from beyond the arc and
led all scorers with 19 points. Teammate Rhett
Standard pulled down 12 rebounds.
The Brown County
(2-5) bench outscored the Titans' 30-9 led by
Nick Reynolds with 12 points while Gary Wagner
added 10. Reynolds added eight rebounds for the
Hornets.
Monmouth-Roseville
advances to the 5:00 p.m. game Friday where they
will play the winner of Pleasant Plains and South
Fulton. Brown County will play the loser of
Plains vs. South Fulton tomorrow morning at 9:00.
NOTES:
- First win for
a Monmouth-affiliated team in the first
round of the M-WHT since 1998.
- Rematch of
last year's consolation championship game
which Brown County won 74-51.
- Monmouth-Roseville
is in their second year of their
consolidation.
