Abingdon survives opening round against Hamilton, 39-28   December 27, 2007
Commandos take lead for good with 11 minutes left
An 11 point victory, 39-28, by Abingdon over Hamilton was tighter than the final score would indicate as the Commandos advance to the second round of the 62nd Annual Macomb-Western Holiday Basketball Tournament at Western Hall in Macomb.

Abingdon (9-3) took the lead for good with 2:59 left in the third and expanded the lead in the final quarter as Hamilton (3-6) sent the Commandos to the free throw line six times in the game's final two minutes where Abingdon converted on five of them to expand a five point lead.

Nick Anderson led Abingdon with 18 points despite only 1-of-7 shooting from long range. His teammate, Ryan Thompson, chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Ryan Brunenn was Hamilton's leading scorer with 9 points.

Hamilton will face the loser of Warsaw/Nauvoo-Colusa vs. Knoxville tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. while Abingdon will face the WNC/Knoxville winner at 5:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
