Pittsfield advances to quarterfinals after 43-37 win over Western   December 27, 2007
Pike County battle goes to the Saukees
The two teams separated by 15 miles traveled nearly 80 to face each other in the first round of the Macomb-Western Holiday Basketball Tournament. Western, the first-year consolidation between the former Barry and West Pike high schools, clawed their way back into contention only to see Pittsfield take a 43-37 opening round win.

Western (4-7) eroded a 16-point second half lead down to just four but would get no closer. Pittsfield (9-2) committed just nine turnovers on the contest to help seal the win.

Pittsfield was led by Jake McNulty's 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Fellow Saukee Jordan Cawthon added 10 points.

Tyler Harris was tops among Western scorers with 13.

Pittsfield moves on to face Monmouth-Roseville in the quarterfinals tomorrow evening with tipoff slated for 6:30.

Tourney newcomer Western will face Illini Central in a 10:30 a.m. consolation bracket game.
