| Kewanee's
Peter Tanzillo celebrated his 18th birthday with
a double-double notching 16 points and 12
rebounds in a 58-48 win over Farmington. The loss
was the first for Farmington (6-6) in the opening
round of the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament
since a 66-58 defeat to Hamilton in 2002. Tanzillo was seeing his
first action in several games after suffering a
severe ankle sprain.
The game marked
the first time these two teams faced each other
since a dramatic 1998 Sectional final where
Farmington came back from a five-point deficit in
the final minute to beat Kewanee 64-63.
Kewanee (9-5),
making their first tournament appearance since
1981, jumped out to a nine-point lead midway
through the first period. However, Farmington
fought back to take the lead in the final minute
of the first quarter. The Boilermakers regained
the lead with 6:20 left in the first half and
never looked back.
John Brashers, in
just seven minutes of action, led the Farmers in
the scoring column with nine points.
Farmington moves
to the consolation bracket where they will face
the Macomb/Brown County loser in a 1:00 matchup
tomorrow while Kewanee faces the Bomber/Hornet
winner in the quarterfinals. That tipoff is
slated for 8:00 p.m.
