Lewistown's Cinderella run comes to an end   December 29, 2007
Titans take the title
Making a bid to become the first unseeded team to win the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament since 2002, Lewistown just barely came up short. Meanwhile, Monmouth-Roseville capped a three-day effort with the tournament championship after giving Lewistown their first loss on the season, 58-55.

To get here, Lewistown (12-1) had to outlast Pleasant Plains in four overtimes.

For Monmouth-Roseville (13-2), they had to overcome second half deficits in two of their three games leading to the final. It was something they had to do in the final, as well.

Tournament MVP Ben Gillen dropped in 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting to pace the Titans. Ryan Cheek added 12 and collected 12 rebounds to earn the double-double.

All-Tournament selection Cory Bishop went 8-of-12 from the floor and scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds -- six on the offensive end.

The title is the first ever for the Titans. Monmouth High School, prior to the consolidation with Roseville, last won a tournament title in 1981.
