Defending champs are knocked to the consolation bracket   December 27, 2008
Titans cannot overcome slow start
Lewistown raced out to a 16-2 first quater lead and withstood a Monmouth-Roseville rally as the Indians notched a 59-45 opening round win over the Titans.

In a rematch of last year's championship game, Lewistown (7-2) used a 42-25 rebounding advantage to hold off a Monmouth-Roseville (6-4) charge which, in the third quater, got as close as four points of the Indians before Lewistown went on a 20-8 run to close out the third.

Quinton Hatfill led the Indians with 14 points while teammates Scott Parrish and Brent Burrows 13 and 10, respectively. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Tanner Schreck's 10 points.

The Titan loss is the first in the opening round by a defending champion since Lewistown was nipped by Camp Point Central 45-43 in 2002 after Lewistown had won the 2001 Championship.

Monmouth-Roseville awaits the loser of Illini West vs. Farmington for a consolation bracket game Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. while Lewistown will play the winner of that game at 5:00 p.m. Monday.
