jumped out to a 6-0 lead only to watch as Illini
West came back to grab a seven point lead. A 13-0
run by the Farmers gave them a 12 point lead with
just over two minutes to play. Those 12 points
evaporated over the closing moments of
regulation, forcing overtime. Farmington coach Tom
Wierzba watched his squad hold Illini West
scoreless in the extra period as fourth-seeded
Farmington moves on with a 50-40 opening round
victory. The win secured Wierzba's 600th career
victory.
Farmington (7-1)
was led by Scott Hammond's 18 points while
teammates Preston Peterson and Gabe Ayers each
reached double-figure scoring. Ayers finished
with a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds).
Jacob Schmudlach
topped Illini West (1-4) in the scoring column
with 20 points.
Farmington earned
a rematch with Lewistown Monday afternoon at 5:00
while Illini West will take on Monmouth-Roseville
at 9:00 a.m. Monday in the consolation bracket.
