Abingdon wins battle of the boards to notch victory.
Abingdon out-rebounded Kewanee 36-21 and wound up winning the game by a 57-54 margin as the third-seeded Commandoes survived a first-round test.

Kewanee (3-9) never trailed by more than a single point during the entire first half. In fact, Abingdon (9-1) didn't take the lead for good until just 7:00 remained in the game.

Kewanee's Louis Garms scored all 14 of his points in the first half. Abingdon only allowed Garms two shots in the second half before he fouled out with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter. Albert Fields led the Boilermakers with 17 points while Terry Mercer added 10.

Clifford Moshier turned in one of the best performances of day one with 22 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Nate Powell added 15.

Kewanee will next see action Monday afternoon at 1:00 where they will face Brown County in a consolation bracket quarterfinal.

Abingdon moves to the winners' bracket where they will face Macomb in an 8:00 p.m. matchup in the round of eight.
