The Rockridge Rockets (9-4) overcame a slow first quarter to down the Pittsfield Saukees (4-7) by a score of 49-22 in the first round of Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament.  The Rockets used their defense to set the tempo in this matchup.

After holding a slim 6-5 first quarter lead, Rockridge out-scored Pittsfield 25-7 total points in the middle quarters to push their lead upward and was never threatened from there.  The Rockridge defense held the Saukees to 25% shooting in the game and forced 21 turnovers.  When the defense was able to get the ball, the offense took advantage.  The Rockets out-scored the Saukees 25-0 off of turnovers. 

Rockridge was led by a pair of 12 point scorers in Jensen Whiteman and Nate Henry.  Henry also led a bench that out-scored Pittsfield 19-0.  Riley Fetterer added eight points while Grant Jorgensen chipped in seven points.

Pittsfield was led by Cade Tomhave with nine points.  Cooper Priest (seven points) and Isaac Shaw (six points) were the only other Saukee scorers.  On a positive note, Pittsfield out-rebound Rockridge by a 31-24 margin.

Rockridge advances to the championship quarterfinal round where they will meet up with Monmouth-Roseville.  Tip-off for that game is set for 6:30 pm on Thursday, December 27th.  This will be the second ever match-up between these teams in the tournament.  The only other time was a championship semi-final matchup that was won by Rockridge.  Pittsfield will match-up with Canton in the second consolation quarterfinal round.  Tip-off for that game is set for 10:30 am on Thursday, December 27th.
