In Game 5, Eureka put on an all-around show to show why they were deserving of the #2 seed in this year’s tournament.  Scoring 26 points in the 2nd quarter, the Hornets from Eureka (10-4) ran free in the second half and initiated a running clock to close out a 70-32 win over the Chargers from Illini West (2-12).

The score was a close 13-9 after the first period as the Chargers started the scoring off with a jumper by Matt Greiner.  Eureka would answer back and the lead would change hands four times in the opening frame.  Eureka’s offense went into overdrive as they scored 26 points in the 2nd quarter and followed it up with 20 more in the 3rd quarter.  The Hornets won the rebounding battle 42 to 24 and dominated the paint to the tune of 48 to 6.

Eureka was led by Keegan Zimmerman who scored 21 points and added eight rebounds.  Also scoring in double figures was Adam Anderson, who had 13 points.  Sterling Spencer grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, including 5 offensive rebounds.

Illini West was led in scoring by Carter Boyer with nine points.  Lincoln Gooding added eight points of his own.  The Chargers shot well from the charity stripe as a team, as they finished 7 for 10.

Eureka advances to the quarterfinals, were they will face the winner of the Macomb and Illini Bluffs game on Thursday at 8:00 pm.  Illini West will continue in the consolation bracket, where they will face the loser of the same game, playing their game on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
