Game 6 of the Macomb-Western Holiday Basketball turned into the Cam Scott Show and we were there to enjoy it.  The Illini Bluffs Tigers (5-7) pulled ahead early and had to fight in the middle, but were able to pull away for a 68-57 win over the Macomb Bombers (0-9).

Scott finished the game as the current tournament leader in scoring with 29 points on 10-18 shooting (5-9 on 3’s) and a perfect 4-4 from the line.  He scored 12 of his team’s 20 points in the first quarter staking them to an early 20-8 lead.  Only two players scored during the first, as the remaining eight points came from Buddy Randle.

Illini Bluffs pushed to their largest lead in the second quarter of 16 at 29-13, but Macomb went on a 10-0 run in the last 4:12 of the second quarter to pull within 6, 29-23 at halftime.  Macomb was able to out-score the one man show that was Scott, as he scored all nine of his team’s points this quarter while the Bombers scored 15.

Macomb’s emphasis coming out of halftime was to focus on Scott as they were able to hold him scoreless in the third.  However, this opened opportunities for his teammates to continue to push the lead forward without his contribution in the scoring column.  Macomb was able to fight back for the only tie of the game with 2:41 remaining but the Tigers was able to close the quarter strong pushing the lead to 9, 49-40.  Reid Sondgeroth for Illini Bluffs scored 13 of his 20 team’s third quarter points.

The Scott show ended with him scoring eight points in the fourth quarter as Illini Bluffs maintained a double-digit lead for most of the quarter.

Aside from Scott’s 29 points and game-high six rebounds, Sondgeroth finished with 20 points on 6-11 shooting and Buddy Randle contributed 10 points and a team-high four assists for the Tigers.

Macomb was led by 22 points from Ben Higgins, who also chipped in four rebounds and a game-high five assists.  Joining Higgins in double figure scoring was Cameron Schultze with 12 and Colin MacGregor with 11.

Illini Bluffs will move on to the third championship quarterfinal where they will meet the Eureka Hornets.  Tip-off will begin at 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 27th.  Macomb will face old West Central Conference rival Illini West in the third consolation quarterfinal.  Tip-off will begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 27th.
