Day 2 of the 2018 Macomb-Western Holiday
Tournament kicked off with a well-played consolation bout
between the Tornadoes of Abingdon-Avon (7-6) and the Hornets of
Brown County (5-6).
The big story here was Ryan Adolphson’s tournament-tying
performance of 29 points as his A-Town secured the 58-51 win.
The Tornadoes won the rebounding battle
32-24, and also had four fewer turnovers (10 compared to Brown
County’s 14). Brown
County did shoot well, however, as they finished the contest
20/40 for 50% from the floor.
The Hornets also were excellent in passing and finding
the open player, as 16 of their 20 field goals were assisted.
Abingdon-Avon was led in scoring by Ryan
Adolphson, who finished with 29 points on 11-of-14 shooting and
7-of-10 from the free throw line.
Adolphson also added nine rebounds.
Cayden Mahr supplemented 11 points and had a game-high 10
rebounds to complete the double-double.
Kaden Jones added eight points and Lukas Tinkham pulled
down seven rebounds.
As previously stated, Brown County was
efficient from the field, shooting an impressive 50% as a team.
The Hornets were led in scoring by Brady Bergman’s 19
points. Also in
double figures were Camden Schmitz with 11 points and Nathan
Hendricker with 10.
Tate Fullerton dished out eight assists to go along with his
Abingdon-Avon advances to Saturday play as they reach the
semi-finals of the consolation bracket.
They will play the 9:00 am game, Saturday the 29th
at Brophy Hall (which is right across the street from Western
Hall). Brown County has
been eliminated from the tournament.
