Macomb led wire-to-wire in Game 11 of the tournament to upend Illini West by a score of 58-29.  Macomb’s Bombers shot 52% from the floor, including 50% from beyond the 3-point arc to advance to Saturday play.  The Chargers of Illini West received an all-around effort from Carter Boyer but ultimately fell short.

Two statistics tell the story in this one:  Points in the paint (Macomb 32, Illini West 12) and second chance points (Macomb 18, Illini West 2).  After a first quarter that saw Macomb build an 18-8 lead, Illini West stormed back with an even, back-and-forth 2nd quarter.  However, the Bomber defense would hold the Chargers to just 11 second half points.  Illini West played a relatively mistake-free game and ended with just 10 turnovers and won the block battle with four to Macomb’s zero.  However, Illini West shot just 31.6% from the floor in the loss.

Ben Higgins was the driving force behind the Macomb scoring attack.  He led both teams in points (16), rebounds (seven), and assists (four).  Also reaching double figures for the Bombers was Cameron Schultze with 11, including firing 3-of-4 from 3-point land.  The Bombers also had a pair of scorers finish with eight points (Colin MacGregor and Carter Sutton).

Illini West was led in both points scored (11) and rebounds (four) by Carter Boyer.  Matt Greiner finished with seven points.  Forward Cole Jackson had three of the four total blocks in the game between both teams.

Macomb advances to the consolation semifinals to face the winner of the Liberty and Lewistown contest.  That game will be played at 10:30 on Saturday morning in the gym at Brophy Hall (across the street from Western Hall).  Illini West has been eliminated from the tournament.
