The #2 seed Eureka Hornets (11-4) were up
to the task this evening as they put on an offensive showcase to
down the Tigers of Illini Bluffs (6-7) by a score of 87-61.
The story in this game was the impressive individual
performance of Eureka’s Keegan Zimmerman, who finished with a
tournament-high 35 points.
Eureka stormed out of the gate in this one,
taking a 26-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
They slowed down somewhat in the 2nd quarter,
as Illini Bluffs outscored them 22-18 in that frame.
After the Hornets scored another 25 points in the 3rd
quarter, it was all but over.
The Tigers had 10 steals and forced 16 Hornet turnovers
and spun those into 19 points, but after the hot Eureka start,
it was too late.
Eureka had 3 double digit scorers,
including two that had double doubles.
Six-foot-eight senior forward Keegan finished with 35
points on 13-of-21 shooting and 11 rebounds.
Alex Brittain scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 12
rebounds. Also in
double digit scoring was Brady Krile, who finished with 13.
The Hornets shot 51.6% from the field and 70% from the
charity stripe. The
Hornets also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Tigers
Bluffs had two scorers that stood out:
Veteran All-Tournament 2017 selection Cam Scott (19 points) and
Reid Sondgeroth (16 points).
Cam Scott also had a team-high six rebounds and five
steals. Bluffs had
some trouble with their shooting as they finished just 38.2% as
Eureka advances to the semifinals to take
on the winner of the game between Farmington and Camp Point
Central. That game
(Game # 22) will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm at
Western Hall. Illini
Bluffs will continue to play in the tournament, by way of the 5th
place bracket. They
will face the loser of the Farmington and Camp Point Central
