Notre Dame held Western High to single-digit
scoring in each of the last three quarters in
cruising to the title. MVP John Flynn had 23
points and 9 rebounds in the title game for the
champs. In
1956, IHSA first used the Super-Sectionals and
Elite Eight system for the state tournament.
Notre Dame
finished fourth at the state tournament. They
defeated Springfield High School 65-53, and
Evanston Township 76-63, before losing to Herrin
68-47, and Ottawa Township 65-64 in overtime.
Notre Dame finished with a final record of 30-4.
