| Illini Central is looking
for their first opening round victory
since 2005. In the 2007 tournament,
Illini Central went 0-2 for the first
time since 1998.
Illini
Central's 74-71 third place loss to
Canton in 2004 marks the most points
scored by two teams in a single game in
the new millenium.
Anthony
Rivera was the last Cougar to be named to
the All-Tourney team. He earned that
honor as a junior in 2005.
The squad
from Mason City nearly notched their
first tournament championship under the
Illini Central High School name as the
Cougars came back to force overtime in
2002, but fell short to Canton. Mason
City High School (now part of Illini
Central) won the title during an 8-team
event in 1950.
David
McGinnis (1990) is the record-holder for
most points scored in a tournament (129)
and the only Cougar to be named
tournament MVP.
