Illini
West Tournament Trivia:
|
| Illini West notched their
best-ever tournament finish last year as
they took home the 2nd place trophy. That
came on the heels of a 3rd place trophy
the year prior. In notching last year's
second place finish, the Chargers notched
wins against two seeded teams: #1 Camp
Point Central (45-39) and #4 Pleasant
Plains (43-30).
Coach
Hughs is no stranger to the M-WHT. Prior
to taking over the Illini West program in
2009, Hughs had previously been
Knoxville's head coach for two seasons
(04-05, 05-06). Hughs' Knoxville teams
went 2-4 in the tourney those two years.
Carthage,
Dallas City & LaHarpe are all part of
Illini West High School. LaHarpe had
never been a tournament participant while
Dallas City was entered in the tournament
from 1947-1950. Dallas City never did
take home any tournament hardware.
Carthage,
on the other hand, has enjoyed much
success in the tournament with fourth
place finishes in 2005, 1972, 1966 &
1954; 3rd place finishes in 1968, 1952
& 1951; and a runner up finish in
both 1967 and 2004.
In 1977,
Carthage set a record for highest free
throw percentange when they made 24 of 25
for 96%.
