2025 Game 24 Recap: Abingdon-Avon 56, Mercer County 52

Coming off a close win against Brown County, the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes were ready to finish their tournament with a win and take home the 5th Place trophy.  In a game that featured seven lead changes, seven ties, and an overtime period, A-Town secured the victory with a 56-52 score over the Mercer County Golden Eagles.  Despite each team having a 20+ point scorer and the close final score, these stats in this game told a wildly different story.  Mercer County outrebounded A-Town handily 36-24, but A-Town doubled up the Golden Eagles on points in the paint 36-28 and won the points off turnovers battle 21-4.  Mercer County outscored A-Town 10-5 in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime, but the Tornadoes were too much in the extra period and took the four-point win.

Abingdon-Avon (13-2) was led in scoring by Ryker Darst’s 21 points and Tre Kenon’s 13 points.  Alex Foutch added nine points.  Kenon led the team with six rebounds and three blocks while Ayden Stromson also pulled down five rebounds.  Lucas Andrews led the Tornadoes with three assists. 

Mercer County (8-4) received a game-high 25 points from Brady McPeek on 9-of-18 (50%) shooting and 3-for-4 (75%) from the free throw line.  Holden Demuth finished with 12 points.  Spencer Andresen also added nine points, a game-high nine rebounds, and two blocks.  McPeek also added seven rebounds.  Lucas Marston let the Golden Eagles with three assists.  Mercer County’s 36 rebounds allowed them to win the second chance point battle by a score of 15-9.

A-Town has secured the 5th Place trophy, their first hardware since earning the 3rd Place trophy in the 2019 event and 11th in their school’s history.  Mercer County finishes in 6th Place after an impressive run through the tournament.
