2022 Game 16 Recap: Eureka 57, Farmington 44

Despite a valiant effort from Farmer Logan Morse and company, #3 seeded Eureka Hornets continued their MWHT title defense with a win over Farmington, 57-44, in Game 16. A direct contrast to the game prior, the Farmers and Hornets entertained the crowd with a high flying, offensive orientated contest. Eureka controlled the early goings and never looked back, leading 30-24 going into halftime.

On a three from Logan Morse, the Farmers cut their deficit to four going into the fourth quarter, 39-35. It was all Hornets in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Farmers 18-9 in the final eight minutes. Eureka proved to be the more physical team on the defensive end as well, winning the overall rebounding battle 33-20.

Reigning MVP Tyler Heffren led the Hornet’s balanced offensive attack with an 18 point, 11 rebound double-double. Slater Wilcox also contributed a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Tyler Tate finished with 12 points and a game high six assists. Justis Bachman rounded out the Hornet’s double digit scorers, ending the game with 11 points.

The Farmer’s offensive attack was not quite so balanced, but luckily for them, Logan Morse put on a clinic. The senior guard put up 22 points on 8-of-18 shooting in the second best offensive performance of the tournament thus far. Junior Keauntrey Barnes finished with 13 points and six boards.

Eureka advances into the semifinals, Game 22, and will face Danny Stephens and #2 seeded Southeastern. That game is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Friday, Dec. 30 at Western Hall. Farmington falls into the 5th place bracket and will contest the hometown Macomb Bombers in Game 20. That game is scheduled for 10:30 am on Friday at Western Hall.
