In a rematch of the 2019 MWHT Championship game, the Farmers avenged their loss and came away with a 44-31 victory over the Rockets of Rockridge. Due in large part to Farmington’s stifling defense, the #1 seeded Rockets only shot 24.3% on field goals in this contest. Farmington led wire-to-wire, leading 20-10 at the half and coming away with the 12 point victory.
Even though this game was low scoring, it wasn’t particularly sloppy. Each team played well defensively and held onto the ball relatively well. The Farmers largely held reigning MVP Nate Henry in check. Henry did score 15 points, but wasn’t able to string together any significant runs. The stats don’t otherwise tell the story of a blowout as many of the key game-telling factors were fairly even. The Farmers did outrebound the Rockets 31-25, however.
Farmington was led in scoring by Corbin Rutledge’s 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Logan Morse also dipped into double-figures with 13. Keauntrey Barnes had seven points and a game-high seven rebounds. The Farmers will need to improve on their 11-of-22 free throw shooting if they hope to have success in the semifinals.
Rockridge was once again led by Nate Henry, who finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Jase Whiteman was second on the team with seven points. The Rockets converted six offensive rebounds into eight second-chance points. A stat they led over Farmington 8-3.
Farmington (10-2) advances to the semifinal after the upset. They will face 4th seeded Liberty in Game 21, tipping off at 1:00pm Wednesday. Rockridge (7-4) falls into the 5th place semifinal match vs Camp Pt Central. That contest is Game 19 and will be held 9:00am tomorrow morning in Western Hall.
