Game 16 Recap: Eureka 54, Lewistown 34

This game was truly a game of two halves, as the Eureka Hornets found themselves down by two at the intermission, only to cruise to a 20 point win. The Indians of Lewistown started the game in a whirlwind, jumping out to a quick 13-2 lead on the back of three quick 3-point baskets by John Ross Hess. The Hornets climbed back steadily, down just three after the first. The second quarter was even and Lewistown went into the break up by a bucket.

The second half was Eureka’s Mr. Hyde to Lewistown’s Dr. Jekyl. Eureka outscored Lewistown 33-11 in the second half. After shooting just 31% from the floor in the first half, Eureka shot 63% in the second half. To contrast, Lewistown shot 44% in the first half and just 21% after halftime. The truly clinching event occurred when the Hornets held Lewistown at 32 points from 0:32 left in the third quarter until 1:01 left in the fourth quarter. By the time the Indians got their next bucket, it was far too late, and Eureka had 52 points.

Eureka was led in both scoring and boards by Tyler Heffren’s 18 points and 9 rebounds. Tyler Tate scored 16 points off the bench, including 4-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc. Justis Bachman added in five assists. The Hornets dished 15 assists for their 21 total field goals.

Lewistown’s leading scorer was John Ross Hess’s 15 points. He also added three steals. Trevor Goforth pitched in eight points and a team-high six rebounds.

Eureka (9-3) advances to the semifinals to face Macomb in Game 22, tomorrow at 2:30pm. Lewistown (11-3) falls to the 5th place semifinals and will play Pittsfield at 10:30am in Game 20.
