Game 20 Recap: Macomb 48, Pittsfield 33

The hometown Bombers (3-9) got off to a quick start and didn’t let off the gas as they come away with the victory over the Saukees of Pittsfield (5-8) by a score of 48-33.  Macomb’s Sam Allen was the only scorer in double figures for either team, as he finished with 22 points on 6-8 from the floor and 8-8 from the free throw line.

A relatively clean game consisting of just 19 combined turnovers punctuated this 5th place semifinal.  Three point land was desolate, however, as the teams combined to shoot only 4-23 (17%) behind the arc.  Macomb attempted more free throws (27) than field goals (25).  That doesn’t seem that impressive until you compare it to Pittsfield’s counts…who attempted 12 free throws and 41 field goals.

As mentioned, Macomb had the only double digit scorer in Sam Allen.  His 22 points continued an impressive tournament showing for the All-Tourney hopeful.  Tyler Bickers had six rebounds and Adam Farr pulled down an additional five.  Sean Winters had a team-high three assists.

Pittsfield’s leading scorer was Peyton Apps, who finished with nine points.  Cade Tomhave finished with eight of his own.  Will Guthrie pulled down a team-high five rebounds.  App led the Saukees with three assists.  Guthrie also swiped four steals.  Pittsfield only turned the ball over an impressive seven times.

Macomb advances to the fifth place game Game 24 (tonight, 6:30pm) where they will play the Eagles of Liberty.  The Saukees have been eliminated from the tournament.
