In the first tournament semifinal game, the #1 seeded West Hancock Titans squared off against the Canton Little Giants, who had just upset #4 seed Eureka in the previous quarterfinals round. The Titans started off hot, finishing the first quarter up 20-6. Canton would win the next two quarters by a combined 31-24 to pull within seven points. But West Hancock was simply too much in this game, taking the fourth quarter 20-12 and moving on with the 64-49 victory. Most counting stats were even in this game, as rebounds were tied 26-26, turnovers were low for both squads, and points in the pain were a 32-28 edge for West Hancock. The difference in this game were the shot percentages, where the Titans shot 21-39 (54%) and the Little Giants shot just 19-48 (40%).
West Hancock (9-3) was led by a tournament-high 29 points from Hunter Froman, a game-high six assists, a team-high four steals, and 12-for-14 shooting from the free throw line. Cooper Knowles continued his outstanding tournament as well, finishing with 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Jordan Crowley also finished in double figures, with 11 points mainly from 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. The Titans never trailed in this contest.
The Little Giants (9-4) received a team-high 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, five steals, and four blocks from senior Lakon Otto. Sivante Stokes finished with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Canton’s bench outscored West Hancock 5-0 and took more advantage of turnovers in this game than West Hancock did, by a count of 12-9. After a 2-for-9 shooting first quarter, the Little Giants were unfortunately playing catch-up for the rest of the game.
West Hancock moves on to the Championship game where they will play the winner of the Macomb vs. Illini West semifinal. Canton will play the losing team of that same game.
